Robert Koehler timesheet for
19th February 1943 for work done on constructing one of the chimneys
of Krematorium IV (or possibly V, there is doubt as to the numbering
system used). The chimney had been built up 1.50 m. The composition
of the gang employed is typical, with 12 civilians and 20 prisoners
working as bricklayer’s laborers. Two were in fact detached to
Krematorium III (or IV) and four went to help Riedel & Son.
Koehler was by no means the only firm to use prisoners from the
camp. Huta also did so and indeed the contribution of this “work
force” was essential to the construction of the four Krematorien.
Without them the work progressed very little if it was not stopped
altogether. |
