God? Because you are good, you are kind, and if one had to count the number of your good deeds and kindnesses one would never finish; God? It is you who command, you who are justice, you who reward the good and punish the bad. God? After this I can say that I will never forget you. I will always think of you, even in the last moments of my life. You can count on it. What you are to me is something that I can't express, because you are so good. You can believe me. God? Thanks to you I had a beautiful life before, thanks to you I was spoiled and had beautiful things that other people don't. God? After this, I ask you only one thing: bring my parents back, my poor parents, protect them (even more than me) and let me see them as soon as possible; bring them back one more time. Ah! I used to be able to say that I had such a wonderful Maman and such a wonderful Papa. I trust you so much that I say thank you in advance.
Maurice, along with Max Balsam, was one of the two children Leon Reifman brought to Izieu on the morning of April 6, 1944. Students at the boarding school in Belley (Ain), they were on their Easter break.
