Joseph                                                 Henri

Henri (Chaim) GOLDBERG was born on December 30, 1930, in Paris, and his brother Joseph on March 1, 1932. Their parents were Gita and Amyl. They were in the children's home in Izieu, where they sometimes worked on a farm. Joseph sent drawings to his mother and wrote her: You say that I'm a great artist because of my drawings, but I'm still not a painter: perhaps some day. As soon as we received your letter, we read it and showed it to the owner [of the farm]. She read it and then she gave us a little lesson in morality that I really liked. She told us that we had to study hard because otherwise, if you saw us again after the war, we would be dunces. I'm going to study hard to make you happy, to make her and the headmistress and our teacher happy, and myself too, so that after the war you'll find both of us intelligent and not consider us two dunces.
They were deported on convoy 71 of April 13, 1944.
