The only person in this picture, taken around 1930,
to escape deportation was Chana-Annie, the big girl standing in the center. Her
parents, brothers, and sisters were all deported. The father and mother, Shimon
and Idessa KRAKAUER, were deported on convoy 11 of July 27, 1942, with three of their children born
in Czestochowa, Poland: Iczek (Jacques), age 20 (on the stool);
Moishe (Maurice), 16 (on the horse); and Sara (Simone), 21 (on
the left). Pessa (Paulette), 14, was deported alone on
convoy 40 of November 4, 1942. They were
arrested in Chaumont (Haute-Marne), northeastern France, where they lived at 16
rue d'Alsace, and transferred to Drancy via Chalons-sur-Marne. |
