The leading personality in the UGIF, of which he was the director in the Vichy Zone, Raymond-Raoul LAMBERT was arrested by the Gestapo because he had protested to Laval against the Germans' actions. He did not wish to hide his family, and they shared his fate at Auschwitz. They were deported on convoy 64 of December 7, 1943 – he, his wife Simone, and their four children: Lionel, age 14; Marc, 11; Tony, 4; and Marie-France, 18 months.
