This photograph was included in a search notice put out at the liberation of France by the only surviving member of this family, the father, Louis LAZAR. None of the other members returned, neither his wife nor any of his children: Ruth, age 17; Günther, 16; Kurt, 12; and Francine, 4. Neither did a cousin, Werner STRAUSS, 15. Kurt was born in Illingen, Germany, and Werner in Bad Kreuznach. They were arrested on January 20 by the Gestapo at Nyons (Drôme), and deported on convoy 67 of February 3, 1944.

Handwritten on the page: In the night of January 20, 1944, arrested in their apartment [at] Promenade des Anglais, Nyons - (Drome) by the Gestapo and transferred to the fortress of Montluc in Lyons. Stayed in Drancy between January 28, 1944, and February 3, 1944, near Paris. Deported on February 3, 1944, without any news. If news, send them to Louis LAZAR, NYONS (Drôme) France.
