                                                           Léonie

        Frieda           Sarah

Shown in this picture are the three LEWKOWICZ sisters, all born in Metz (Moselle), Léonie on March 6, 1926; Frieda on August 9, 1927; and Sarah on November 15, 1929. Arrested with their mother in Angoulême (Charente), where they lived at 4 rue de la Corderie, they were all deported on November 4, 1942, on convoy 40. At the time of arrest, their little brother Marcel, age 3, had been in the care of Assistance Publique. Twenty years passed before he found his older brother, who returned from Auschwitz believing that Marcel had been deported with the rest of his family.
