This document is a foreigner's identity card (Carte d'Identité d'Étranger), stamped Juif (Jew). The stamp was required on the identity cards of both French and foreign Jews beginning October 1940 in the Occupied Zone, and December 1942 in the Southern Zone. This card belonged to Mendel LIBRACH, age 17, deported on February 11, 1943, on convoy 47. He was born on December 1, 1926, in Warsaw, and lived at 61 rue Beaumarchais in Montreuil, an eastern suburb of Paris.
