The taller children in the picture are the older son and daughter in the MLYNARSIU family: Szal (Charles) and Szjndla (Sonia). They were born in Lodz, Poland, Szjndla on December 14, 1923, and Szal on March 8, 1925. Their younger brother, David, was also born in Lodz, on April 5, 1929. Rachel, their younger sister, was born in Paris on October 23, 1930. All were arrested with their mother during the Vel d'Hiv roundup, from their home at 35 bis rue de Verdun in Villejuif, a southern suburb of Paris. Interned at Beaune-la-Rolande, their mother, Perla, and the three oldest – the children born in Poland – were deported on August 5, 1942, on convoy 15. Rachel, the youngest, followed them on August 21 on convoy 22.
