Shaja (Charles) PERELSZTEJN was born on September 9, 1927, in the 12th arr. of Paris. The family lived at 10 rue des Jeûneurs (2nd arr.). The mother, Sima, and daughter Rachel, arrested during the Vel d'Hiv roundup, were deported on convoy 13 of July 31, 1942. Charles, interned, like them, in Pithiviers, escaped from the Pithiviers hospital on August 1, 1942. But he was arrested again on June 10, 1943, at his home, and, at age 15, was deported on July 31, 1943, on convoy 58.
