Ruth                                                   Stella and her father in Antwerp in 1940

Ruth (Rutti) RADOMYSLER was born in Leipzig in 1931; she was nearly 11 years old when she was deported on convoy 31 of September 11, 1942, with her parents, Bzabel and Léa, and her little sister, (Esther) Stella, born in Antwerp in 1938. Sophie Caplan, who lives in Australia, remembers them: "The Radomyslers were in the Rivesaltes camp at the same time as us, from 1941 to 1942. Then they escaped but were retaken.... Rutti was the star of the holiday evening for Chanukah in 1941 in Rivesaltes. The OSE staff were looking for a cute little girl to sing and dance a number called Le Dreidel.... At one point the choice was between Rutti and me. But she was prettier than I and sang and danced better than I did. So she was chosen. And it was a great success. She became very popular ... and it was her last Chanukah. I always felt guilty about the jealousy I felt toward her, but perhaps the remorse I felt helped me to remember Rutti. She was very beautiful with long brown curls and blue eyes with long black lashes. And her little sister Stella too. Her name was Esther, but she was called Stella. Both of them sang and danced marvelously well."
