Emile ZUCKERBERG was born on May 15, 1938, in Antwerp. He was one of the 44 Izieu children. His parents, Zygmund and Serla, were deported on September 14, 1942, on convoy 33, after having been interned in Rivesaltes. They were killed at Auschwitz where their not-yet-6-year-old boy would arrive on convoy 71 of April 15, 1944. At the moment of selection, he was torn from the arms of Léa Feldblum, one of the Izieu staff, who adored him, and was pushed into the line going toward the gas chambers.
