                         Léon in 1942

In the picture on the left, taken around 1932, is Elza GHERMANSKI, born on November 8, 1929, in Paris, where she lived at 20 rue Labat (18th arr.). Next to her is her uncle, only a few years older than her, Léon WAISSMANN, born on July 20, 1926, in Paris (12th arr.), who lived in Montreuil at 3 rue Armand Carrel. Elza was deported with her sister Monique, age 8 months, and her mother, Pauline, on convoy 38 of September 28, 1942. Arrested in the rectory of Seranon (Alpes-Maritimes), Léon was deported on May 15, 1944, on convoy 73 to Kaunas or Reval. The other picture shows him at age 16. (Photo cr: Mj-Pp).
