These are some Jewish children who lived in the
apartment house at 96 rue de la Fraternité in Bagnolet, outside of
Paris. At the top left, half hidden, is Dora Szatkownik, who was deported
along with her husband, Bernard Szatkownik (center, rear), on convoy 5.
Next to Bernard is Moshe Konstantyner, also deported. Second row
(from the top left): Malka (Madeleine) HOFMAN (white
beret) was born on September 10, 1927, in Warsaw; she was deported with her
mother on convoy 15 of August 5, 1942. The
smiling boy with the gray sweater next to her is Marcel MESS, born
February 20, 1928, in Paris, and deported with his mother on
convoy 33 of September 16, 1942. The
children next to him are Joseph HOFMAN and Marcel Konstantyner, who
escaped arrest. Third row: Nathan SZATKOWNIK, born November
11, 1933, in Paris, was deported on convoy
20 of August 17, 1942. Frederic ROSENWALD, born January 8, 1932, was
deported on convoy 22 of August 21, 1942.
Henry HOFMAN, born June 10, 1930, in Paris, was deported on
convoy 22. Fourth row (on
their knees): Ida STAROWIEJCKI, born June 18, 1931, in Paris, was
deported on convoy 20 of August 17, 1942.
Suzanne Grimblat escaped arrest. Front row (seated):
Madeleine STAROWIEJCKI, born June 20, 1934, in Paris, was deported with
