Jacques

Rachel SZTAJNBERG was born on September 22, 1926, in Poland. She was deported with her brother Copel, age 13, on convoy 10 of July 24, 1942. Their brother Salomon, 20, and their father, Moszek, had been deported on convoy 5.
Jacques SCHWARZBART was born in Metz (Moselle) on October 1, 1926. The family fled to Oléron Island, on the Atlantic Coast, but were driven inland by the Germans to Saint-Paul-Lizonne (Dordogne). Jacques' older brother, Uszer, was deported on convoy 8; Jacques was taken on convoy 31 of September 11, 1942. Their baby brother, Bernard, 9 months old, was deported with their mother, Louise, on convoy 47 of February 11, 1943. Their brother André (future winner of the Goncourt prize for Le Dernier des Justes) was in the care of the UGIF children's home; he ran away and saved their younger sister by taking her from the UGIF Louveciennes center.
