In the Rivesaltes camp in 1941, the ORT, the remarkable international Jewish training organization, had opened workshops (carpentry, tailoring, publicity, shoemaking, sewing, hairdressing for women and raffia-weaving for men). Among those in the "painting (publicity) workshop" who signed this picture, is Karl DÖBLIN (extreme right), born in 1926 in Mannheim, Germany. He left Rivesaltes for a youth center in Lastic (Hautes-Alpes). Gendarmes brought him back by force to the Rivesaltes camp, and he was transferred with his brother Wilhelm and his mother, Hélène, on September 4, 1942, to Drancy. They were deported on convoy 31 of September 11, 1942.
