Hans-Josef MARTIN (left) was among the Jews whom the Vichy police caught in their big roundup of August 26, 1942, and then transferred to the Occupied Zone. The actions were carried out suddenly, and no birthdates and birthplaces were recorded on the transport lists for the transfers. Deportation from Drancy followed so quickly that these details were never noted. Hans-Josef is among those for whom our research has enabled us to provide identifying information. He was born in Oettingen, Germany, and was 17 when he was arrested at Château de Montintin, an OSE childrens home near Château-Chervix (Haute-Vienne) and deported by convoy 26 of August 31, 1942.
