Film portrayal of the Final Solution
Question
I am looking for information on how the holocaust has been portayed on film as a media. How directors deal with the sensitive issues and the moral obligations dealing with this topic. Reactions to films about the Holocaust would also be very help full. I know that this is probably not within Your service, but if You have any ideas about where I should start to look I would really apprciate it!
Harry W. Mazal OBE answers:
Thank you for your note.
Two books that might help are:
The Holocaust in Books and Films
Judith Herschlag Muffs and Dennis B. Klein,. Editors
c. 1978, 1982, 1986, Anti Defamation League of B'nai B'rith
ISBN 0-87052-292-2
The Holocaust, Israel, and the Jews: Motion
Pictures in the National Archives
Compiled by Charles Lawrence Gellert
c. 1989, National Archives and Records Administration
ISBN 0-911333-78-9
You might also wish to visit the site created by Stephen
Spielberg, creator of "Schindler's List" and "The Last
Days." Clicking on the link to this last film will take you
to a page which discusses a number of films and also
provides interesting links.
The details of Spielberg's Shoah Foundation
are as follows:
Phone: (818) 777-6682
Fax: (818) 866-5241
Email: globalpartners@vhf.org
Or by mail:
Shoah Foundation - Campaign Department
P.O. Box 3168
Los Angeles, CA 90078-3168 USA
A letter addressed to Mr. Spielberg will probably yield
some results.
Good luck with your work!
Yours sincerely,
Harry W. Mazal OBE
