Pearl Harbor

Question:

When and where did Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor? I need more details about the event

Jamie McCarthy answers:

Hello, Pearl Harbor was the name of the harbor in Hawaii where the Japanese bombed the American Pacific fleet on December 7, 1941.

The war in the Pacific isn't really related to our focus, so there are better places to go for details. Your local library is probably the best place to start.

See also Yahoo's page on Pearl Harbor:

http://dir.yahoo.com/Arts/Humanities/History/By_Time_Period/20th_Century/Military_History/World_War_II/Battles_and_Campaigns/Pacific_Theater/Pearl_Harbor/

but on some of those pages, take what you read with a grain of salt (like always, on the Internet).

Question:

Hello, I'm writing an essay on Pearl Harbor, and I really need to know the reasons why it was a success. Why was it important and how was it successful?

Marty Kelley answers:

I am one of the volunteers who answers questions for the Holocaust History Project. You recently sent a question regarding Peal Harbor to our website. Because our primary focus of research is the Holocaust (Nazi Germany's attempted genocide of Jews, Gypsies, and other people the Nazis considered "inferior"), I would suggest that you search for information at websites that deal specifically with the Imperial Japanese Navy's 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. There are many sites that cover this topic; you might also find useful information in an encyclopedia. An internet search using the term "Pearl Harbor" will no doubt yield useful results for you. Good luck with your research, and if you have a question that relates specifically to the Holocaust, please feel free to contact us again.

Question:

why did the Japanese bomb pearl harbor?

Ralf P. Loserth Responds:

Hello,

I'm one of the people who answers questions for the Holocaust History Project. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in hopes of crippling the US Pacific Fleet. This would have enabled the Japanese Navy to carry out its aims in the Pacific Theater without threat of quick US intervention. Our site doesn't really have any coverage of this event, but here are some links for more information.
