Artur Seyss-InquartQuestion:
Harry W. Mazal OBE:I am one of the volunteers in the Holocaust History Project that replies to questions from our readers. It is quite possible that you will receive other replies from my colleagues. You may not know that the International Military Tribunal consists of 42 very large volumes. The volunteers in our Project have so far only put four of these on the site. It is very tedious work as each page must be scanned, the text digitized with an optical character recognition program, and finally converted to HTML text suitable for viewing on the Web. We hope to have all volumes on the web in the next year or two but this is dependent on how many volunteers are willing to commit to this task. Nonetheless, there are some 31 instances in the first four volumes where the name of Seyss-Inquart appears. You may find these by visiting our web page again, selecting "Search" on the menu bar and writing Seyss-Inquart in the search-engine window. Volume XXIV of the IMT collection includes an index in which the name Seyss-Inquart takes up pages 697 to 708. Due to the peculiar nature of this trial, there is no single place where one can find the individual defense of any of the accused. This trail was more a trial by documents than one where witnesses and the accused are cross-examined. Unquestionably, there are many instances where one or another of the accused will speak out, or where witnesses make statements for or against the accused, but it is the enormous mass of documents that are presented that are the foundation for both prosecution and defense. Most university libraries and many libraries in large cities have copies of the IMT books, but there is one book that might be useful to you and which covers information used at the trial against the accused:
The Trial of the Germans: Nuremberg 1945-1946 This book may be found in most libraries and is also available in paperback through Amazon Books. Used hardback books are also available through Alibris.com The section on Seyss-Inquart in this book appears on pages 446 to 482 of the hardback book. I hope that this information will be of some use to you. Yours sincerely, Harry W. Mazal OBE back to the list of questions | ||||
