More on the Hoax of the Nineteenth Century One of the most common claims of the Civil War hoaxers is that Sherman marched to the sea. What a preposterous claim. A march to the sea of such a large army would have required provisions; yet the hoaxers offer no records of such provisions being made. How was this supposed army supposed to eat? Inquiring minds want to know where are the records that show this army was provisioned. Also, if I wanted to go to the sea I'd drive there. Why walk when you can drive? Do hoaxers claim that Sherman would make such a nonsensical decision. Furthermore, there are no proper seas in the US. Perhaps, the hoaxers would like to claim that Sherman marched to the Salton Sea (even though it is not a proper sea). Yet, no historian has claimed that Sherman marched through California. It is also claimed that Sherman burnt many fields and houses. If that is so, where did the fuel come from? You can't get a house to sustain combustion without fuel; try it sometime. Try holding a lit match to the outside of a house, and you will see that the match goes out. Think of all the fuel Sherman would have needed. My estimate is that he would have needed 7,000,000 pounds of fuel. Yet, there is no record of that fuel being ordered or transported. Aerial photographs of the area said to have been covered by Sherman show no evidence of such a march. Give it up hoaxers!
