  Chinese Embassy on fire

<click to enlarge>Belgrade, 8th May, 1999. Last night at 11:45 pm, NATO had attacked the Chinese Embassy located in New Belgrade. During this attack, 30 persons (embassy administration) were inside the building. Until now it is known that one person was killed and organised search for two other victims located somewhere in building ruins is in progress. Around 26 civilians were wounded. Other administration members are safe. 

It is not known why NATO had attacked the Embassy, since that building is far away from any industry building or military object. Officials of Beijing had reacted very dramatically and there was one statement in witch China warned Washington and said that Chinese answer will be very clear.

According to latest information, in tonight's attack on Chinese embassy, 4 persons were killed and 5 were wounded. 

 In attack on Chinese embassy in Belgrade 2 people were killed, and 23 were wounded. NATO regrets the incident, saying "it's a terrible error".

UN Security Council meeting, following the NATO's atack on Chinese embassy in Belgrade, is still going on.
Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has cancelled a planned three day trip to Britain following NATO's bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade.

:50am and because of China request, nonscheduled session of UN Security Council started.
 At present, it is known that two persons were killed in the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade.

 NATO claims that last night's attack on Belgrade was the fiercest one yet and that they have targeted military and civilian-administrative objects. They claim not to have targeted the Chinese Embassy.

Not all victims are evacuated from ruined building of Chinese Embassy in Belgrade.


China had called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in response to the NATO bombing of it Embassy in Belgrade. It is expected that the UN Security Council will convene at 4:30 am (CET). Kofi Annan said that he was shocked because of NATO attack on Chinese Embassy in Belgrade.
