Kosovo Refugees Statistics

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that more than
600,000 people, the vast majority of them ethnic Albanians, have left
Kosovo since NATO began its air assault March 24.

Many of Kosovo's approximately 1.8 million ethnic Albanians were
already displaced before the current exodus. This includes about 100,000
Kosovars who sought asylum in European countries before the airstrikes
on Yugoslavia.

The whereabouts and numbers of the refugees:

Albania -- 365,000

Macedonia -- 132,500

Montenegro -- 73,500

Bosnia Herzegovina -- 32,300

Refugees that have been evacuated from Macedonia:

Austria -- 161

Belgium -- 340

Croatia -- 88

France -- 348

Germany -- 9,974

Iceland -- 23

Israel -- 106

Norway -- 1,104

Poland -- 60

Switzerland -- 33

Turkey -- 3,692

Countries that have offered to take in refugees on a temporary basis:

European Union -- 20,000, including 10,000 in Germany

Turkey -- 20,000

Norway -- 6,000

Iceland -- 100

Malta -- 100

Poland -- 1,000

Romania -- 1,500

Countries that have offered to take in refugees, but where plans have been
put on hold because UNHCR wants to keep them in Europe:

United States -- 20,000

Canada -- 5,000

Australia -- 4,000
