Despite the collapse of Nazi Germany decades ago, it's mindless and archaic philosophy of hate has lingered on due to a minute number of bigoted groups worldwide. Instead of making positive strides to help bridge humankind's social gap, these narrow-minded groups put their energy into resurrecting the fascist ideology of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. After all of the death and suffering caused by Nazi aggression during the Second World War, these people have failed to realize that bigotry isn't the answer. Even in America, one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world, there is a lot of room for extremist groups to flourish. The National Alliance is America's premiere advocate and distributor of Neo-Nazi propaganda. Considered by many to be one of the largest and most dangerous hate groups in the country, the National Alliance shamelessly glorifies terrorism and violence as a way to get their message heard1. Their main aspiration is to rid the United States of Jews and all racial minorities, eventually creating their vision of a fascist utopia. The far right wing National Alliance was founded in 1968 by the anti-Semitic guru Willis Carto. Originally named "Youth for Wallace", the group was formed to support the presidential Campaign of Alabama Governor George Wallace. Governor Wallace gained national notoriety for his attempted struggle to keep Alabama public schools segregated. His racist American Party platform vehemently opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and government welfare programs. Republican Richard Nixon obviously won the election of 1968, defeating George Wallace by a large percentage of the popular vote2. After Governor Wallace's loss to Nixon, Willis Carto decided to modify their name to the National Youth Alliance. An unabashed Anti-Semite, Willis Carto is one of the forefathers of the modern American anti-Jewry movement. Carto has forever maintained his highly immoral position by consistently masterminding new agencies that falsely target the Zionist population. Well before the National Alliance, Carto established the Liberty Lobby in 1955; an extremist group that stands so far right it makes other reactionary political groups pale in comparison3.

Throughout his many years at the helm, Carto has utilized the Liberty Lobby as his own personal propaganda machine to publish a wide variety of Anti-Semitic tabloids. The most prominent of these being The Spotlight, the Liberty Lobby's weekly publication that has covered spurious stories ranging from "Martin Luther King being a Communist" to "The Praise of Ku Klux Klan members."4 Another brainchild of Carto's was The Institute for Historical Review (IHR), which beyond its name lacks any scholarly achievement. The academically fraudulent organization originated in Southern California during 1979 as a means to peddle Holocaust revisionism. The IHR is a merely and assemblage of "neo-Nazis, philo-Germans, right-wing extremists, anti-Semites, racists, and conspiracy theorists" that wrongfully deny the Nazi's mass murdering of European Jews during the second World War.5 In addition, they promulgate the idea that the Holocaust was Zionist charade intended to warrant the compassion of Western society. Incongruously, when you look at the educational backgrounds of these authors, you'll find that they all lack any formal education of History. The amateur writers of the IHR poorly disguise their anti-Semitic propaganda with scholarly-like lexicon to give the impression that they are well educated in the Holocaust field. While there is concrete evidence exhibiting the fact that millions of Jews died because of Nazi activities, the writers of the IHR stubbornly continue to look the other way in dissent6. The IHR is simply another of Willis Carto's bogus enterprises. The IHR is not concerned with the truth; rather it is a tool for spreading historical fallacies and anti-Zionist propaganda. In 1974, there was a power struggle in the National Youth Alliance and William Pierce ultimately took the leadership away from Willis Carto. During the 1960's, Pierce was a prodigy of George Lincoln Rockwell, the President of the American Nazi Party. Pierce joined the National Youth Alliance in 1970 after a brief stint as an officer in the National Socialist White People's Party. Many of the American Nazi Party's supporters changed affiliations and joined the National Youth Alliance along with Pierce in the 1970. It is said that this drastic change is what led to Carto's demise in the organization. After Carto left in 1974, the group's name was reduced to "The National Alliance".

Since then, Carto and Pierce have relentlessly feuded with one another.7 As many of these people tend to be, William Pierce is a bizarre and dangerous figure. He earned a doctorate in Physics from the University of Colorado. After Boulder, he moved on to assistant professor of Physics at Oregon Sate University. Since the early 1960's, the reclusive Pierce has dedicated his life to a career in spreading hate and praising terrorism. Ironically, William Pierce has gained the status of being a "modern day Joseph Goebbels." Goebbels was Hitler's chief propagandist and the primary architect of manipulating the German public. He was instrumental in hoaxing Germans into trusting the totalitarian Nazi philosophies and policies8. William Pierce's autocratic actions have become eerily reminiscent of his hero Goebbels. A key element to the National Alliance's recruiting tactics is their advanced web site. The internet is relatively simple to exploit because it is such a low budget medium. Therefore, it stands as a main outlet for Pierce and his fascist cohorts. The National Alliance's main doctrine of anti-Semitism, "Who Rules America", is the centerpiece of their internet site. "Who Rules America" is a inadequately assembled essay that blames the Jewish community for "corrupting the world." Pierce also produces his own weekly internet and short wave radio show called "American Dissident Voices". The National Alliance's tutorial newsletter Free Speech and the sporadically published magazine National Vanguard (originally named "Attack!," a reference to Joseph Goebbel's propaganda newspaper established in the 1920's) are also available via the internet. As a rationale to "broaden their followers knowledge of history", the National Alliance created their own online bookstore, National Vanguard Books. The 400 or so selected readings vary from terrorist manuals to Holocaust denial literature written by many members of the Institute for Historical Review. The requirements for National Alliance membership are simple. "Any White person (a non-Jewish person of wholly European ancestry) who is at least 18" may join. This excludes homosexuals, alcohol or drugs drug addicts, and persons with non-white spouses, and certain incarcerated criminals. On the National Alliance's website they have a section labeled Who Is the National Alliance. In essence, it is an attempt to falsely portray the National Alliance as a normal institution. On their website, they have collected the pictures of four National Alliance members. Under their pictures, they briefly describe their anti-Semitic viewpoints as if they were positive attributes to have. However, when you look at the National Alliance's map of criminal incidents you will see a very different picture, many members aren't as normal as the National Alliance would like one to think. Just in the past five years there have been dozens of serious crimes that are associated with the National Alliance. In May of 1998, National Alliance member Brian Pickett was arrested in Tampa for "planning to detonate pipe bombs across Central Florida as a diversion for bank robberies." Another National Alliance member, Todd Vanbiber "was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for constructing and possessing explosives."

Other crimes (of National Alliance members) vary from shooting rampages to bombing plots directed at the Anti-Defamation League Headquarters.8i This is just one of countless National Alliance contradictions. To truly understand the National Alliance's nefarious motives you must look no further than Pierce's own extremist fantasy, The Turner Diaries. Originally written under the pseudonym "Andrew MacDonald" in 1978, the fictitious tale has sold well over 200,000 copies to date. This is a rather frightening feat because the book cannot be found in libraries or mainstream bookstores. The narrative of The Turner Diaries begins in the early 1990's and follows the activities of the main character Earl Turner during the "Great Revolution." Turner is an electrical engineer turned insurgent who rises to glory through terrorism during this Aryan uprising. The revolution is devised by "the Organization", a white supremacist guerilla army. Turner becomes part of the inner core of the Organization known as "the Order", a takeoff on Nazi Germany's SS troops. The Order employs insurrectionary tactics and bombs the FBI headquarters to take control of power. Almost everyone in their path is referred to as "the System", all non-whites and the government. The Organization's ultimate ambition is to the rid the United States and eventually the world of Jews and all races. Thus crafting a "master race" of Aryans, directly reminiscent of Nazi Germany ideology. The plot of the book slowly builds with successive terrorist attacks on government institutions until the conclusion when the Aryans prevail. Interestingly, the most important events in The Turner Diaries take place on dates that celebrate and memorialize Adolf Hitler. On November 9th, 1991, the Capitol building is brutally devastated by mortar fire. Same day, two years later, Turner pilots a small plane that drops a nuclear bomb on the Pentagon. Coincidentally, November 9th commemorates the infamous Beer Hall Putsch. A day after proclaiming a Nazi revolution in a Munich beer hall, Hitler's attempted seizure of the Bavarian government went awry and he was sentenced to five years in prison. On April 20th (Hitler's Birthday) in The Turner Diaries, the Israeli embassy is bombarded with mortar fire in the midst of a critical meeting. Lastly, on January 30th, 1999 the government concedes and relinquishes power to the Organization. January 30th symbolically marks the anniversary of Hitler's rise to the Chancellorship of Germany.

The Turner Diaries is not particularly well written, it lacks articulation and substantiation. The main reason the book has sold so well is because it caters to the ultimate desires of white supremacists, an Aryan revolution resulting in the annihilation of Jews and almost all racial groups. This is in fact their fascist utopia coming true, only they have to experience it vicariously. More than just a fairytale of white supremacy, The Turner Diaries acts a terrorist guidebook for amateurs. Instructions on how to build bombs are precisely mapped out and then camouflaged by the notion that it is just a book of fiction. "My day's work started a little before five o'clock yesterday, when I began helping Ed Sanders mix heating oil with ammonium nitrate fertilizer in Unit 8's garage. We stood the 100-pound bags on end one by one and poked a small hole in the top with a screwdriver, just big enough to insert the end of a funnel. While I held the bag and funnel, Ed poured in a gallon of oil. It took us nearly three hours to do all 44 sacks, and the work really wore me out."9 In this apocalyptic fable, the author leaves many perplexing questions unanswered. Pierce never gives a valid reason on why the Organization is headhunting for the Zionists and their "sympathizers". The author intimates that killing everyone but Aryans is the natural thing to do. "If the White nations of the world had not allowed themselves to become subject to the Jew, to Jewish ideas, to Jewish spirit, this war would not be necessary. We can hardly consider ourselves blameless. We can hardly say we had no choice, no chance to avoid the Jew's snare. We can hardly say we were not warned."10 He also seldom discusses the origins of the Organization and how they are administrated. This exemplifies how unstructured the book really is. The Turner Diaries is a hastily produced collection of Pierce's jumbled neo-Nazi beliefs. It acts as a propaganda pamphlet for anti-Semitic terrorism and nothing more. The Turner Diaries is frightening because it fundamentally acts as the bible for National Alliance. The fascist ideas brought forth in the book are the blueprints for what Pierce and his puppets are desperately trying to accomplish. You can see innumerable connections with the underlying plot of the book and the National Alliance's strategy for recruiting. In The Turner Diaries, a lot of the Organization's progress is made towards winning the revolution when they successfully steal a large amount of weapons from the United States Army. This is accomplished because of the large number of Organization followers in the Army. In reality, the National Alliance demonstrates the same intentions. "In April, 1995, National Alliance recruiter Robert Hunt, 23, rented a billboard near the main gate of the sprawling Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina where he served with the 82nd Airborne Division. The billboard read: 'Enough! Let's start taking back America! National Alliance' and carried the telephone number of the group's local message line."11 This is just one of the many instances in which the National Alliance has proved to imitate The Turner Diaries. Soon after The Turner Diaries was published, a group known as the Order began to emulate Pierce's book. The Order was an ensemble of terrorists that stole nearly four million dollars during a string of bank and armored car robberies in the early 1980's. They methodically created a plan reminiscent to the beginning of The Turner Diaries. This system included counterfeiting and robbery as a means to initiate a revolution. Not satisfied with burglary, they also bombed a synagogue. In addition, the Order created an assassination list comprised of people who were "threatening to the white race"; this included the likes of Henry Kissinger and David Rockefeller. The controversial Jewish radio host Alan Berg was also one of the Order's targets. Berg was an outspoken critic of white supremacists on his nationally syndicated talk show.

One night, after an on the air altercation with a local Denver Ku Klux Klan leader, Berg was gunned down in his driveway by members of the Order12. Soon after Berg's tragic death, the Order's reign of terror began its downfall. The group disbanded after their leader Robert Mathews was killed by FBI agents during a shootout in November of 1984. Soon after the breakdown of the Order in 1985, William Pierce relocated the head office of the National Alliance from Arlington, Virginia, to Mill Point, West Virginia. He purchased a 346-acre farm for $95,000 in cash. Prior to his death, Robert Mathews distributed $750,000 of the Order's stolen riches to many of his fascist friends. William Pierce was one of his charitable recipients. It is said that the majority of Pierce's funds used to buy the new headquarters were part of the Order's stolen loot.13 Later that month, Pierce created the National Alliance's imaginary Cosmotheist Community Church. In all aspects, Pierce is far removed from being a religious man. He firmly believes that Christian faith has been "tainted" by its Jewish origins. Pierce thinks that the "Aryans are the true children of Israel whereas the Jews are the spawn of Satan."14 He formed the church as a ploy to get out of paying taxes. Although Pierce told the Internal Revenue Service that his farm was being used for "religious purposes", he was swiftly denied. Years before, Pierce had attempted the same scheme, he told the United States Court of Appeals that the National Alliance should be tax exempt because they were "educational." The court responded by stating that the National Alliance's periodicals "cannot reasonably be considered intellectual exposition."15 It turned out that the Order wasn't the only group of terrorists to be inspired by Pierce's writings. On April 19, 1995, half of the nine-story Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma was blown to oblivion from a surreptitious bombing attack.16 The explosion was caused by an ammonium nitrate fertilizer and heating oil mixture that was very similar to the one described in The Turner Diaries. An excerpt from the book reads (referring to ammonium nitrate fertilizer), "Sensitized with oil and tightly confined, it makes an effective blasting agent where the aim is simply to move a quantity of dirt or rock. But our original plan for the bomb called for it to be essentially unconfined and to be able to punch through two levels of reinforced-concrete flooring while producing an open air blast wave powerful enough to blow the faíÛade off a massive and strongly constructed building."17 The result of this devastating blast left 168 men, women, and children dead and more than 500 people injured. To this day, the Oklahoma City bombing is the single largest act of domestic terrorism in American history. The guilty party was twenty-seven year old Timothy McVeigh. It was 9:03 a.m. when McVeigh detonated the explosives situated in a rental truck parked adjacent to the Murrah building.18 The damage to the building was so severe that it took rescue workers almost two weeks to recover all of the victims. Yet again, this brings up more evidence that McVeigh imitated the ideas in Pierce's book. In The Turner Diaries, the car bomb that destroys a federal building goes off at 9:15 a.m. and the destruction is equivalent to that of real life. Almost ninety minutes following the bombing in Oklahoma City, McVeigh was pulled over by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Officer for driving without a license plate. If it wasn't for this incident, it is believed that McVeigh might have escaped without a trace. When McVeigh was arrested, "he had in his possession a well worn copy of The Turner Diaries."19 Apparently, McVeigh was a real aficionado of Pierce's book. He was known to promote the book a gun shows and distribute it among his acquaintances in the Army.20 Throughout the trial, McVeigh stoically showed no remorse for his actions. McVeigh has since been found guilty on all eleven charges and sentenced to death. It is ironic that a despicable incident such as this brought national attention to William Pierce. During his brief moment in the public eye, Pierce suprisingly tried to distance his writings from the bombing. He discarded many of the reports connecting The Turner Diaries to the bombing as "total nonsense."21 During an interview by CBS' 60 Minutes, reporter Mike Wallace stated the following, "Timothy McVeigh says that your novel inspired him. Does this make you feel guilty at all?" Pierce "smiled slightly" and denied that any of his writings would enthuse a person to commit such a horrendous crime.

One review of the 60 Minutes telecast read, "If you know what Pierce has said and exactly what he believes, the interview on CBS' 60 Minutes was bone-chilling. Pierce presented himself as a learned, contemplative man whose philosophies make perfect sense. He referred to his anti-Semitic ideas with vague, sugar-coated terms that sounded far different from the private paranoia of his writings."21 It is very obvious that William Pierce's genuine feelings about the Oklahoma bombing are totally different than those of the image he portrayed on 60 Minutes. A short while after the interview, Pierce was quoted as saying, "We will see a much greater incidence of domestic terrorism directed at the government. Not just because potential terrorists will draw inspiration from the Oklahoma City bombing, but because the same irritants which led to that bombing can only grow stronger and affect more people with time."22 This goes to show that Pierce is a man of many contradictions. Throughout his brief time in the national spotlight, Pierce shied away from expressing his true feelings. He had spent his entire life waiting for this moment but he didn't do anything about it. The 60 Minutes interview was his chance to let the entire country know his anti-Semitic opinions and pro-terrorist agenda. Instead of standing by his convictions and promoting the National Alliance, Pierce spinelessly backed down. This illustrates how Pierce hides behind his pathetic neo-nazi publications and takes no responsibility for his writings. He relies on his publications to provoke the ignorance of others but he is afraid to do anything further. Nothing exhibits the National Alliance's inconsistencies and erroneous beliefs more than their main manifesto of propaganda, Who Rules America. A longtime centerpiece of the National Alliance and is used as a recruiting tool. Who Rules America is available on their website and has been passed around at gun shows. Who Rules America is a redundant compilation of half-truths and absurdities. It claims that the Jews operate the world through manipulating the media. Written by the "Research Staff" of the National Alliance, it is an insult to anybody who has an intelligence level beyond a first grade level. Who Rules America has many of the same fictitious qualities as The Turner Diaries because the entire document is missing substantiation. The National Alliance "research staff" compiled a list of media and entertainment companies that are owned or operated by people of Jewish origin. Without any further evidence, they deduce that America has been brainwashed and manipulated by these persons. Throughout the entire thirteen pages of Who Rules America, the authors fail to give a single fact that verifies their argument. When discussing America's television, radio, and newspapers they allege, "The mass media form for us our image of the world and then tell us what to think about that image. Employing carefully developed psychological techniques, they guide our thought and opinion so we can be in tune with the 'in' crowd." The irony of this is statement is very amusing.

The National Alliance strongly believes that white people are intellectually superior to others, yet here they have come to the conclusion that white people cannot think for themselves. To William Pierce, all whites are just mindless media driven robots that lack any capability of forming their own opinions. According to the National Alliance, everything white people read, watch, and listen to transforms us into foolish followers. Therefore we should turn to our savior, William Pierce, because all white people cannot think for themselves. As an attempt to show how America's news coverage has been "tainted", the National Alliance uses the Middle East as an example. "Some editors or commentators are slavishly pro-Israel in their every utterance, while others seem nearly neutral. No one, however, dares suggest that the U.S. government is backing the wrong side in the Arab-Jewish conflict and that it served Jewish interests rather than American interests to send forces to cripple Iraq, Israel's principal rival in the Middle East. Thus, a spectrum of permissible opinion, from pro-Israel to nearly neutral, is established." This example given by the National Alliance is excellent because it displays how hypocritical they are. In reality, both Arabs and Jews are both Semitic people. By definition, the National Alliance hates both groups. Why is the National Alliance taking sides in this situation? If Jews didn't exist would the neo-Nazis seek to eliminate the Arabs? The National Alliance follows their poor Middle East example by asserting another fallacy, "Without Jewish media control, there would have been no Persian Gulf War." Obviously the National Alliance's "research staff" has spent too much of their time studying terrorist manuals and reading Holocaust revisionism to pay attention to the real facts. The Persian Gulf War was fought over America's interest in Kuwaiti oil. When talking about the Jewish influence on entertainment, the "research staff" came up with the following proclamation, "A racially mixed couple will be respected, liked, and socially sought after. On the other hand, a White racist, that is, any racially conscious White person who looks askance at miscegenation or at the rapidly darkening racial situation in America, is portrayed at best, as a despicable bigot who is reviled by other characters or at worse, as a dangerous psychopath who is fascinated by and is a menace to all law abiding citizens. The White racist 'gun nut' in fact, has become a familiar stereotype on TV shows." Ironically, the National Alliance recruits and markets their publications at gun shows. According to William Pierce, television should glorify uneducated, gun wielding, racist bigots. The National Alliance believes that fascists, terrorists, and murderers aren't getting their "due respect" on television. What's next? Maybe we should have The Turner Diaries turned in to a Broadway musical. Timothy McVeigh could have his own late night talk show because he is such a stand up guy. This is just another of the endless paradoxes in Who Rules America. How exactly did the media "manipulate" the media coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing? When news cameras showed pictures of the Murrah Federal building in ruins, were we supposed to think that McVeigh was a hero? Once again, Pierce is unjustly assuming that the vast majority of white Americans are naí¿ve and brainless. The majority of Who Rules America is just list of Jewish owned or controlled media companies.

There is no denying that media giants Seagram, The New York Times, and Time Warner are all owned by people of Jewish origin. However, The National Alliance makes it sound as if it is a crime for a Jew to own a large corporation. These owners haven't done anything illegal or wrong. The National Alliance's false accusation of "Jewish media manipulation" is just anti-Semitic propaganda with no factual basis. Who Rules America's authors provide absolutely no references to evidence of any sort. The National Alliance never gives any proof whatsoever when it comes to the Jewish origins of these so-called media giants. Some can be identified as Jews by surname but others are pure speculation. If this were in court, the National Alliance would have no case. Besides, if the National Alliance had any actual proof against the "manipulation" by these media giants, wouldn't they be able to write more than thirteen pages on it? Furthermore, most of these media giants are publicly traded companies. For example, both Disney and Viacom have Jewish CEOs. It doesn't really matter if Jews run these companies because if there was explicit "manipulation" taking place, shareholders would undoubtedly vote to dismiss their CEO's. What about the rest of the high-ranking officials in these companies that are gentiles? Take the board of directors for example, their decisions count just as much as the CEOs. Wouldn't these gentiles want to stop the Jewish manipulation? Irrelevantly, Who Rules America also listed companies like the sports network ESPN as being operated by a Jews. Does the National Alliance actually think that I'm being "manipulated" when I watch National Hockey Night? The National Alliance conveniently failed to mention many of the media giants that are owned or operated by gentiles. Bantam Doubleday Dell (one of the largest mass media publishing groups in the U.S.), McGraw Hill, Yahoo, Microsoft, AT&T, and The Los Angeles Times are several examples. If these powerful media companies don't have any Jewish influence, wouldn't they be the first to point out that people were being "manipulated" by their competitors? Clearly, Who Rules America is an offensive collection of misinformation and paranoid speculation that confirms the bogus nature of the National Alliance. The National Alliance fails to recognize that tolerance isn't strictly a Jewish position, but a virtue that everyone (excluding fascists) possess. Anyone who can think for themselves will realize that Who Rules America fails to prove any wrong doing by these Jewish operated companies. It is filled with a plethora of discrepancies and misleading half-truths. In fact, it wouldn't be suprising if the "research staff" were an assembly of writers from the Institute for Historical Review. William Pierce and his neo-Nazi National Alliance are a classic example of people who are unable to cope with life. For them, it easier to sit around and place blame on others than it is to go out and work hard. Simply thinking and acting under the false premise that "my group is better than yours" is not a viable excuse to hate others. Fascist groups like these operate under a complete blanket of fear. Because of their ineptness towards life, they are afraid of inclusion. Therefore, they attempt to use fear as a weapon to manipulate others into believing that diversity is a bad thing. When in reality, it is the acceptance of ethnic and religious diversity that has helped America flourish so effectively.
