These two cards are from the Drancy system
established by Aloïs Brunner when he took over as commander of Drancy in
June 1943. They show the specificity of this anti-Jewish fanaticism.
The third German ordinance of April 26, 1941, and the 2nd French law
concerning Jews (Statut des Juifs) of June 2, 1941, gave somewhat different
definitions of a Jew. Under the German law, a Jew was anyone with two Jewish
grandparents, if that person was or had been married to a Jew, or belonged to
the Jewish community. Under the French law, a Jew was a person who belonged to
the Jewish religion, who belonged as of June 25, 1940, and had two grandparents
of the Jewish race.
