Within the framework of the German law,
Brunner made very different decisions on the fate of the two children named on
these cards. Each had only two Jewish grandparents.
Arlette Chabbat, 10
months old, was, according to her mother, an undeclared Catholic. Her father
was not Jewish, but her mother was. Brunner considered her to be Jewish, too,
and he deported her on convoy 74 of May 20,
1944.
René Levy, 9, was of undeclared religion. His father was
Jewish, but his mother was not. Therefore he was not considered part of the
Jewish community; Brunner freed him.
