La
Maison d'Izieu par Georgy |
|
He wrote this letter to his mother in May 1943, while
she was in the hospital: Chere Maman, I arrived well at Izieu. I regret that
I didn't stay with you a few more days. I'm having a good time and my health is
good. The war will soon be over: I'll come to your house and we'll go to Vienna
and we'll be together again: Grandma won't be all alone any more. It is very
hot in Izieu. It was a very long trip and people came to meet me at Bellay. Are
you in good health. I hug and kiss you with all my heart. Georgy. Because
Georges wrote regularly to his mother and his father, we are able to follow the
life of the children's home. Chere Maman, Thank you for your letter
which made me very happy. I'm behaving myself I'm having a good time; at
Christmas we had lots of parties, we put on plays and we ate very well; we had
spice cake, chocolate, jellied quince, a bag of candy, and we drank ovaltine
and got presents. Mine was a box of paints and a drawing pad. Are you in good
health, your little New Year's card was very beautiful. I answered Papa. It
isn't snowing any more, I'm eating well and sleeping well, I'm really fine. We
go for walks on Thursdays and Sundays; we wake up at seven, for breakfast we
have coffee and toast with jam, at midday we sometimes have soup, a vegetable,
and dessert, and for snack we have bread and chocolate milk. At night we have
soup, a vegetable, and pot cheese. I send you 1000000000000000 kisses your son
who loves you very much. There are big mountains and the village is very
pretty; there are a lot of farms, we sometimes walk to Brenier-Cordon. The
house is very beautiful we look for blackberries and raspberries and white
mulberries. I hug you with all my heart. Georgy. Georgy was deported on
convoy 71 of April 13, 1944. |
