| Convoy 35 of
September 21, 1942, deported three HERSZBEIN sisters, all born in Metz
(Moselle): Golda, age 14; Hélène, 16; and
Rose, 12. The three sisters are shown above with their mother, Basilia,
who was deported with them, as was their father, Lipman. They were arrested in
Châtelaillon-Plage (Charente-Maritime), on the Atlantic coast. Four of
the five sons in the family, who were all born in Hagondange (Moselle), were
deported: Jacob, age 23; Alfred, 22; Simon, 20; and François, 19. Only
Jean survived as a prisoner of war. Simone and Thérèse Herszbein
(see index) were Jacob's daughters. |
