Rachel SZMULEWICZ was nearly 17 when she was
deported on convoy 10 of July 24, 1942. Her
father had been deported just a week before. They lived at 31 rue Calmels (18th
arr.) in Paris. On July 21 she wrote to her mother from Drancy: There
are 85 of us, women and girls, in one very big room; there are many girls in my
situation. And, Mama, above all don't worry and keep up your spirits, you
mustn't lose hope. The sun will shine again for us, sooner than we think. To
understand some things, we must go through this
