We were also able to gain access
to the records of the trial of Dr Beger, the anthropologist who selected the
victims at Auschwitz. Our thanks to the Frankfurt Prosecutor's Office and the
Hesse State Archives in Wiesbaden for their assistance.
The record is a
terrible one, but the world must confront it, for it exemplifies the horror of
the Jewish condition during the Nazi period. Those things that happened must be
known. They cannot and must not be forgotten. Such is the main ambition of the
publications we have undertaken.
